MSM for Horses
HorseTech's MSM is 100% pure licensed methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), an all natural sulfur
source with excellent bio-availability. A small
amount of anti-caking material may be added to improve flow and reduce
caking, yielding a final product containing approximately 99.9% pure methylsulfonylmethane.
MSM is an organic substance
and is found in all living organisms. Generally, it is found in
relatively small amounts in most feedstuffs. However, it is not an inherently
stable form of sulfur. Processing of grains and proteins may destroy
the naturally occurring MSM. MSM in hay may easily be
destroyed by moisture and/or the drying process. Therefore, it may
be helpful to offer support with a pure source of MSM such as
HorseTech's Patented OptiMSM®
.
Equine professionals, veterinarians, and horse owners report excellent results
obtained from the use of MSM for:
Why Patented MSM?
The purified, patented MSM is a white, crystalline powder
that can be easily incorporated into your supplement program.
HorseTech's OptiMSM® is
manufactured by Bergstrom Nutrition (OptiMSM®
is a registered trademark of Bergstrom Nutrition, Inc.) in the United States under a patent originally assigned to Robert Herschler, the
man who originally identified/developed MSM. Patents were granted to
Herschler. This licensed form of
MSM is made under patent #5,071,878.
What about "other"
sources of MSM?
Yes, you can find other
sources of methylsulfonylmethane. Non-licensed
methylsulfonylmethane is often imported from mainland China
and/or other Pacific Rim countries and can be purchased in bulk
through various importers. The price, the purity
and the quality of this
material varies greatly.
Much
of this
imported material is manufactured using a relatively low cost evaporation
process. With an evaporation based manufacturing process,
contaminants found in the water used for production may end up in your MSM
product. HorseTech's
OptiMSM®
is
made with a unique distillation process where contaminants are "distilled"
away from the final product. You'll note that the distilled product
is a fine white powder, whereas the evaporated product will
generally be a larger,
less consistent "flake" material.
Further, each and every batch
of
OptiMSM®
is
tested right here in the U.S. for heavy metal contaminants AND
microbiological contaminants. This is an important part of the
quality assurance program!

Usage
Provide to
full sized horses (1,000 to 1,200 lbs) at the rate of 10 grams
(one level scoop) per horse, per day. An initial usage rate of 20 grams per day (10
grams twice daily) may be utilized for the first seven days. The enclosed
11cc scoop will hold approximately 10 grams. Usage rate may be
reduced proportionately, by weight, for smaller horses, lighter breeds,
etc.
